About Esho Nije Kori

Esho Nije kori is a local initiative out of Bangladesh. We are committed to supporting those living with mental illness who suffer from a social stigma and cannot come out to ask for help openly. We advocate for mental health support for anyone in need and respect their anonymity.

Esho Nije Kori - Our name in English means 'Let's do it ourselves- The idea came to existence as we see sufferers of mental health illness battle through the social stigmas in our community against the victims of this disease. We as a society refuse to acknowledge mental health as an actual health issue, whereas any physical illness is acknowledged. As one of the best mental health organizations, we offer a platform where individuals, families, businesses, communities, and other organizations can easily open up and start a dialogue to bring a solution for themselves. These will bring a fundamental shift in attitude and direction in life for the sufferer and eventually allow them to take a positive step towards enlightenment and open a large support group for them, which can lead to a solution to this problem.

Esho Nije Kori (ENK) was founded in 2016 with the slogan “Prevention is better than Cure” in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to develop the mental well-being of young professionals and youth in general who in this day and age suffer from various mental issues but cannot seek support. By opening a dialogue and respecting their anonymity, ENK is one of the best mental health platforms. We hope to create a sustained dialogue, opening society's moral values.

ENK aspires to bring about a positive change in society. We believe as one of the best mental health support organizations. Everyone can make a big difference in their day-to-day life by bringing a little change in their thought process, emotion, and behavior. We can support and show the way forward, but the change in oneself must come about through themselves. Hence, the initiative's name stands as - Let's do it ourselves.

Studies show that almost 75-90% of people suffer from psychosomatic pain or psychological disorders which they neglect. Counseling and training services on these topics and engaging in open discussions are visibly impossible, and support systems for this kind of initiative are inadequate in our community. Analyzing this pattern within the society and the need for professional mental health services, ENK has developed a diverse training module and a mental health support system to cater to these silent heroes who suffer the pain in silence.

ENK professionals guide, motivate and educate individuals on various topics such as Depression, Anxiety, Anger Management, Stress, PTSD, OCD, Relationship Issues, Schizophrenia, and more. Our qualified psychologist offers counseling and diagnosis to individuals and can offer a detailed bespoke plan to bring positive changes in their lives. We understand the level of stress at workplaces, and we sympathize with you. These led to us opening our corporate services in our diverse portfolio, which includes employee assistance programs, mindfulness leadership training, and much more.

ENK is steadfast in its goal to boost awareness of mental health. Slowly but surely, mass people are growing awareness of mental health. We want to pioneer a strong support system for those who suffer silently with a platform that is the best mental health support system in Bangladesh. We understand the gravity of your issue, even when your closest friend doesn't, and we believe in lighting the candle of hope which inspires us to keep going forward and offer a hand. Our effort is the start of the end of low levels of access to effective care and treatments for so many people who live their lives in distress and despair.

What is Mental Health?

Strong mental health is to have a positive state of mind and body, feeling safe and able to cope, and a sense of connection with people, communities, and the wider environment.

It is an indicator for a society and its healthcare system that recognizes that a great deal of mental illness can be prevented. Having access to mental health treatment at an early stage offers a great opportunity for recovery. It refers to the notion that treatments are effective, and people with mental illness deserve and benefit from excellent care that enables them to develop their potential and bring back hope to live. They can start contributing to their society, family, and community again with the experience and grit developed through this illness and recovery.

Mental illness is very common. It affects one in four people in the world at least once in their lives. The impacts of mental illness often start in childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood and even move on. It may appear at a later stage of life. But access to skilled assessment and excellent treatments is limited in Bangladesh. The majority go untreated; on average, just a few percent of those with disorder get access to proper care.

The Significance and benefits of Mental Health Organizations

The latest WHO report shows that in 2019, nearly one billion people, including 14% of the world’s adolescents, live with some mental disorder. The suicide rate is more than one percent among them, and a staggering 58% of suicides occurred before the age of 50. Mental disorder is the leading cause of disability. People who suffer severe mental illness die on average 10 to 20 years younger than the population at large, mostly due to other curable physical diseases. Child sex abuse and victims of bullying are major causes of depression. Social and economic inequalities, public health emergencies, war, and climate crises are global, structural threats to mental health. During the COVID pandemic, depression and anxiety went up by 25%. Stigma, discrimination, and human rights violations against people with mental health conditions are widespread in communities and care systems everywhere; In most countries, the poorest and deprived people in society are the ones at greatest risk of mental illness. They are also the least likely to receive the required services.

Based on the latest evidence, WHO’s comprehensive report calls on all stakeholders to work together to deepen the value and commitment given to mental health, reshape the environments that influence mental health, and strengthen the systems that care for people’s mental health.

WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “Everyone’s life touches someone with a mental health condition. Good mental health translates to good physical health, and this new report makes a compelling case for change. The inextricable links between mental health and public health, human rights, and socioeconomic development mean that transforming policy and practice in mental health can deliver real, substantive benefits for individuals, communities and countries everywhere. Investment into mental health is an investment into a better life and future for all.”

The direct benefits of a mental health service for a person are huge, but the biggest are:

  • Improved communication and interpersonal skills
  • Improved self-acceptance and self-esteem
  • Capability to change self-defeating behaviors and habits
  • More suitable expression and management of emotions
  • Allows you to have early diagnosis and treatment for depression, anxiety, or other mental health conditions
  • Greater confidence and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage stress more effectively
  • Increased ability in problem-solving and conflict resolution in life

How can you benefit from a support structure like ENK

  • You will be able to stay with your therapist even if you change your workplace or your home

What should you consider before you choose a mental health organization

Keep these three simple factors in mind when choosing among the various types of mental health providers:

● Your concern or condition

While most mental health providers can provide treatment for a range of conditions, a mental health provider with a specialized focus may be more suited to your needs. For example, if you have a problem with depression, you may need to see a psychologist, but depending on the severity, you may also need a psychiatrist.

● Whether you need medications

Not every mental health professional can prescribe you medications. A general physician can also offer you mental health medication, but making sure your correct diagnosis is important. Although depending on how severe your symptoms are, a doctor can recommend consulting a psychiatrist.

● The severity of your condition

The general notion is that the more severe your circumstances and more complex your diagnosis is, the better expertise you need in your mental healthcare provider. Medications prescribed by your family doctor, seeing a counselor, or combining the two may be enough. However, any severe conditions like schizophrenia or severe depression may require the patient to see both psychiatrist and a psychologist.
